After being really unsure following last week research I wanted to figure out the real causes of famine in Ethiopia. Therefore, I read a book written by Alex de Waal in which he explained the famine crime and the politics of disaster relief in the African Continent. After reading the book I found out that I was completely wrong and that the real causes of famine in Ethiopia mostly came from political actors in this country, this is because they used famine as a form of cohesion and a form to keep the electorate in check. Therefore, in this specific Ethiopian case the famine crises were self inflicted on the people by the government just so some people could maintain control. Putting this in other terms the famine crises in Ethiopia could have been completely preventable and all of the people that died because of this famine crises died because of the complete greed and the search of power of irresponsible political actors.
