The paper concludes by observing that there is no single mechanism for achieving gender equality on the political space in Africa. Multiplicity of factors including geographical position, state of democracy and rule of law, level or literacy of citizens, access to information, socio-cultural practices at both the local and national levels, would in cumulative composition become the principal determinants. It adds, however, that until other barriers that hinder women participation in politics are addressed, women would still be alienated if not cut from the political scene in Africa.
